What would I change?

NaBloPoMo November 2012 Prompt
Friday, November 9, 2012:

If you could change one thing about your life right now, what would it be?

Right now? If I could, I would wave a magic wand and immediately restore my husband to a whole and healthy state. I’d take away the infection and pain so as to eliminate the need for the medications that make him sick and tired, and I’d give him back a good, strong hip so that he would be able to walk properly and return to the independent life that he so misses.

You may say that this isn’t something about my life, but it is. Everything he goes through has an effect on me: it breaks my heart when he’s unhappy or frustrated… and anything he can’t do for himself ends up on my shoulders. I’d do it all, and anything else he needed from me, a million times over – but I miss our old life. I miss the old him.

We’re around halfway through this first stage. Sometime early in the new year, if all goes according to plan, he should be able to have his hip replacement surgery. But right now, we’re both weary and, some days, it feels like this is going to last forever.
