Though it’s technically impossible to actually transmit smell via photograph, I’m sure as heck going to give it a shot today… because the aroma of this morning’s freshly-ground coffee beans was utterly intoxicating. Talk about an instantaneous happy day!
Though I used to have a multiple-cup-a-day habit (many, many years ago), I don’t drink a lot of coffee these days – for the most part it’s just the one cup in the morning (though if we go out for breakfast and linger awhile I’ll almost certainly have a refill). Still, even that one cup daily ritual is so very satisfying and, somehow, comforting. I might even go so far as to say that coffee is on my gratitude list, silly though it might be! (For that matter, the fact that I’m down to one cup a day is cause for gratitude – enjoyment without major dependency.)
Oh coffee, my coffee!
Hope you’ll join me in this week’s Gratitude Linkup!
(If you’d like a bit of background on why I started the Gratitude Linkup, check out this post.)

My Gratitude List
In no particular order, here is my own gratitude list for this moment in time. I hope that after reading it you’ll go on to write and share your own!
- The arrival of fall, and a nice long stretch of gorgeous sunny days. I’m not sure exactly why, but I always feel the most “myself” at this time of year, so the arrival of fall is always welcome.
- Interesting discussions with my book club friends.
- Authors who share their talent and creativity with the world.
- My friends. My friends. My friends. It bears repeating.
- Laughter, silliness, and smart, funny people.
- My decision to jump on the The 100 Happy Days bandwagon, and the perspective my participation is giving me.
- Getting a date to look forward to for Peter’s hip replacement surgery. (Yes, for those of you who have known me long-term, it’s time for yet ANOTHER hip replacement surgery. This one is for the other side, and it’ll be in November. I’m sure I’ll be writing more about it over time.)
- Our Canadian medical system, Peter’s wonderful surgeon, and the fact that he could have scheduled the surgery for as soon as October, except that the available date fell during a time when I’d be out of town.
- Anticipating my upcoming visit to Victoria – reuniting with my family, friends, and co-workers, some for the first time since we moved almost three years ago.

Oh Laurel, how I LOVE the smell of coffee and coffee beans: so aromatic! However, I rarely drink coffee as one I believe I’m sensitive to it – get acid reflux from it it seems, think it is addictive, and when on homeopathic remedy, can’t or shouldn’t as it interferes with it. I’m glad you were able to wean yourself from it. And I love your gratitude list as usual! I’m grateful for Indian summer! 🙂 <3

Best to stay away from it then – but at least you can still enjoy the smell!

It is funny Laurel, because this morning I decided to cut back on my coffee intake! I just had one deca coffee today instead of my 3/4 daily cups of coffee…
I love the smell of coffee though…

I’m not a fan of the TASTE of coffee, but I love the SMELL of coffee. I think the picture you shared smells great! 😉
I love book club discussions, and I love that you hopped on the 100 happy days bandwagon too. I love reading your happy posts. There are so many things to be thankful for this fall!

I LOVE the smell of brewing coffee! I’ve only drank it the last 10 years or so. I’m grateful for the wonderful fall weather we are having in upstate New York. It got up to 77 (25 C) today – unbelievable!

I can feel the smell of coffee from your picture, however I am not a coffee drinker. Your gratitude for today is perfect, coffee is a comfort to a lot of people but doing it in moderation is the best.

Lady – you had me at COFFEE 😉
that said, I too have drastically cut down on my coffee consumption, and have embraced the ‘other side’ – aka TEA 😛 – too! hehehee I used to drink 9 cups a day – of BLACK coffee. Now, I limit myself to 1 or – at most – 2 cups, although, like you, I enjoy ‘lingering’ at brunch places with couple of refills! LOL
And, right now, I am just grateful the Packers beat the Bears 😉 hehehe It’s been a horrible day for me, so I am feeling low and blue, but this win made me smile! #IamsoSILLY 😛
BTW, I could totally SMELL those ground beans! #HUGS
Much love
K

I love coffee, that heady smell is intoxicating isn’t it! I’ve had to cut back dramatically since entering perimenopause otherwise I’m constantly getting hot flashes; I miss my nightly cup.

I agree with your sentiment about coffee. I find the smell alone comforting. Fall seems to bring the blues to me. Perhaps it’s a memory of too many losses this time of the year. That said, I am enjoying the warm weather and the long shadows.
