The Worst Trip

NaBloPoMo November 2012 Prompt
Wednesday, November 28, 2012:

Tell us about the worst trip you ever took.

I can think of parts of a couple of trips I’ve taken that haven’t been so wonderful…

  • Being on a bus that broke down on the highway on a stiflingly hot summer day, stranding the passengers for several hours in the middle of nowhere.
  • Finally resuming travel on the same bus, everything patched together except for the air conditioning.
  • Coming down with a nasty cold on the first day of a three-week camping trip with friends (particularly uncomfortable as I am not much of a camper to begin with!).
  • This night not so very long ago.

…but really, for the most part, I’ve had a series of positive travel experiences throughout my life. And despite the fact that the few bad parts were incredibly unpleasant at the time, I really had to dig deep to remember them – because what’s left in my mind, really, are all the happy memories of trips taken, sights seen, and people met.

On the other hand, I have plenty of bad experiences to share when it comes to restaurant food! But that’s a story for another day.

What was the worst trip you ever took?
