Tangled Tuesday No. 30 + 100 Happy Days – Day 74

This is totally NOT tangling-related, but… today’s happiness is brought to you by my first ever perfect score on the Wii Fit Advanced Step workout! And before this screen came up to confirm my score I was rewarded with a “Perfect Moves” banner that flashed across the screen, which totally made my day.

Such a little thing, but definitely happy-making!

Now on to this week’s Tangled Tuesday – keep reading for plenty of Zentangle®1 goodness!

Tangling Goodies

I have an exciting announcement to make: Ten Thousand Tangles has expanded to a second shop! Now you can get all sorts of goodies featuring a selection of my finished pieces (i.e., four different Zendalas, my Zenletter/tangled alphabet series, and my most recent holiday-inspired Holly & Snowflake design) on Society6 as well as Zazzle.

I actually ordered some holiday greeting cards for myself this week, and I can’t wait to see them in real life. If you’d like to pick up something for yourself or as a gift for someone else (the holidays are coming, after all!) – or maybe you’d prefer to browse for the moment – I invite you to stop by and take a look.

New Tangles

This week I learned Twizted and Pufff, both from TanglePatterns.com.

Tangling-in-Progress

I’m currently working on the 8″ x 10″ ZIA I started on Sunday (there’s an in-progress picture in this post, in case you missed it), and hope to wrap it up this week. It’s definitely not turning out the way I had loosely planned at the beginning, but that’s pretty typical when it comes to me and tangling (and also why I would be very hesitant indeed to take on any kind of commissioned artwork).

Finished Projects

As you will have seen if you’ve been following Alphabet Salad this week, I finished this piece during Peter’s recent hip replacement surgery (more about that here):

Then it was on to The Diva’s Challenge. This week it was all about “Turning Old into New” – that is, we were to choose a favourite tangle pattern, and then:

If you picked a grid-based pattern, pull it out of the grid and make it a freeform one.

If it’s a freeform pattern, make it a grid-based pattern. That could mean several rows or a single row, drawn as a border.

The idea is to change the structure of a pattern, while still retaining its basic elements.

I chose Henna Drum, which I learned back in April during this year’s Blogging from A to Z Challenge (or, in my case, Tangling from A to Z!).

Henna Drum is what I would describe as a free-form pattern, so I converted it into one that was grid-based. As I progressed through the tile I decided to take pictures at different stages so I could see the various options available – that is, leaving the background open so that the grid would show, colouring in just the edges of the design to form a sort of frame, and filling in the whole background.

I’m not sure which one I like best – I think they each have something going for them! Which one is your favourite?
