Inspired by NaBloPoMo writing prompt for Tuesday, March 18, 2014:
How would you rate your self-confidence? When is it at its lowest? When is it at its highest?
From the serious to the silly…
My self-confidence is strong
- when it comes to my job of almost 18 years
- when it comes to my organizational abilities
- when it comes to my knowledge of 80s music trivia
- when it comes to my writing
My self-confidence is weak
- when I have to introduce myself to someone new
- when I have to face my mish-mash of education and lack of degree
- when I have to do math (and can’t use a calculator or Excel spreadsheet)
- when I have to speak in front of a group
My self-confidence is at its lowest
- when I compare myself to others
- when I am in the presence of overbearing people
- when I see an unflattering photo of myself
- when I make a stupid mistake
My self-confidence is at its highest
- when I’m taking good care of myself physically
- when I’m all caught up and on top of things
- when I’m wearing a favourite outfit
- when I create something that satisfies me
How about you?
How would you rate your self-confidence?
Please share!

I really like this post. I was a self-confident little girl. Sometimes I am still that little girl. Sometimes not at all. You inspired me to write more about this. Thanks, Laurel.

I relate to the way you related to your strengths and weaknessses. It seems to me that we’re confident when in familiar situations, and at more of a loss with the unknown. That seems to be the way it is for me, anyway. Plus, it depends very much on my own self-talk. I can be my own worst enemy. Thanks for sharing, Laurel!

My self confidence is at its highest when I am doing something I am experienced at doing, and where I don’t have an audience. It’s at its lowest in any kind of social situation – I am a true introvert. Thank you for sharing your weaknesses – I know it is not an easy thing to do.

That’s a wonderful way to access ones confidence… I feel nervous while meeting new people.

Same here – I’m fine once I know them, but awkward when first meeting them.

My self confidence is the highest when I am at work. I feel comfortable with my knowledge and communication with my co-workers and patients.
My self-confidence is lowest when at a party or when attempting new things.
Thanks for you honesty and thought provoking post.

Love the way you did this…I think it really helps with personal understanding to write a list in just this way.
My self confidence is highest when I am working.
My self confidence is lowest when I attempt math!!
My self confidence is highest when I speak in front of people.
My self confidence is lowest when I have too much weight on my body.
Thanks for this!

You always have such thought-provoking ideas! Hmmm . . . My confidence is at it’s highest when I’m working with children. Or writing. Or public speaking to an attentive audience. It’s at it’s lowest when I get rejected by yet another publisher. Or make a silly mistake. Sigh.

I really liked the way you laid this out. I also find that many things I am very confidant in — and some, not so much. I soar at public speaking and I would do it everyday if I could. Was in 5 cities last week, 5 different venues and even had some groupies follow me around. It makes for over-confidence some times and when I was feeling just a little too proud of myself, on the last day when I was speaking, I noticed 3 women in the audience were asleep. Short of picking something up and throwing it at them, I realized they were there to keep me humble 🙂
