Poorly-timed inspiration

This afternoon I spent a couple of hours working in the backyard – pulling weeds, picking up trash, and sweeping the walk. The whole time I was out there, reveling in the somewhat contradictory combination of physical exertion and the peaceful stillness of a warm spring afternoon, my brain was percolating with thoughts and reflections and so many, many ideas of things I want to write.

When I was finished outdoors and sat down in front of my computer to convert those ponderings into words, however, all I could think about was moving my tired (and rather grubby) self and my deliciously-aching muscles into a warm, scented bath where, not surprisingly, further thoughts and reflections and so many, many ideas of things I want to write meandered through my then-relaxed brain.

After my bath, once again in front of the computer, a yawn escaped… my eyelids drooped… and the cosiness of my bed and an afternoon nap with a soft chocolate-brown cat suddenly seemed far more appealing than struggling to translate elusive musings into something concrete. Once again, thoughts and reflections and so many, many ideas of things I want to write whispered softly to my sleepy brain as I drifted off into dreams.

Do you know what would be nice? A personal scribe one could summon at will, genie-like, to quickly and efficiently capture all that brilliance and translate it into words before it is supplanted by a nice hot bath and catnap under the skylights.

Someone get to work on that, would you?
