I didn’t have to go too far to find my pick for today’s Photo Friday challenge prompt of “Leaves” – it was waiting for me right at my own front door! See, the outside walls of our home are slowly being covered with a blanket of ivy, and although this picture was taken awhile back and the vines have grown quite a bit since then, it does give you a bit of an idea as to how it’s progressing.
This past summer I noticed that the vines have started to make their way across the surface of the front porch as well as the walls – plus they threatened to come into the house every time I opened the screen door (creepy, right?!) – but due to the messiness and disruption of the roadwork on our street we didn’t pay a whole lot of attention to the front of our house for several months. I’m happy to know that some day the (rather unattractive) gray block walls will be covered in lush green ivy, but as the leaves start growing back this summer we’re definitely going to need to do a bit of taming and training so that the place doesn’t become a complete jungle.
I’m really looking forward to enjoying our front porch this spring and summer, sans roadwork!
Are you a fan of ivy-covered buildings?

Lovely! I wish it was warm enough here for the leaves to be that green. I can’t wait. Please share more.

I love to see ivy covered buildings. There is a YWCA in downtown Binghamton, New York, where I work. The building is over 100 years old. The ivy gives this building such character.

I love ivy-covered buildings! However, not English ivy as I learned that, although pretty, it is actually an invasive weed! Hope yours isn’t that one Laurel 🙂 <3

Me too! I can’t imagine it is the invasive kind, as it looks like the original plant was put there intentionally by a previous homeowner.

I love looking at ivy growing on other people’s houses, Laurel. I’m a little afraid there will be creatures hiding among the leaves! 😉
