Photo Friday: Architecture

Today’s Photo Friday selection is another picture taken from the Windsor side of the Detroit Riverfront, just a short walk from my house. I was tickled by the juxtaposition of the quaint wooden birdhouse against the steel and glass of Detroit’s skyline – two completely different sizes and styles of architecture captured in the same shot.

Windsor birdhouse against the Detroit skyline

Great effect, Laurel! 🙂 I haven’t been to the Windsor/Detroit area in a long time. Maybe next road trip. Have a good weekend.

This so captured what I remembered as a Detroit visitor crossing over to Windsor. Canada was clean and green and inviting. Detroit looks impressive from a distance, but when your in and among all those shiny buildings you see mile after mile of serious hard core urban blight. Very sad.
As a nature lover, I’ll confess I love the symbolism of seeing the bird house as just a little bit taller than the shiny monuments of corporate life.

I too like that the birdhouse is taller! And I must confess that even though I love the Detroit skyline, I’m very happy living on this side of the water. 🙂

I’ve been to Detroit and have to say, that’s a much nicer depiction of what Detroit really looks like.

I’ve lived here in Windsor for almost three years now, but have only been over to Detroit a handful of times – so mostly I enjoy it from afar. 🙂

Great photo, Laurel – the bird house looks like a quaint architectural statement on the new trend toward “small house” living next to the McMansions!! Very clever.
I agree with your other readers -this photo certainly puts Detroit in its best (and sadly not true on closer inspection) light. The gleaming windows that don’t reflect the seamy underbelly that everyone familiar with the city knows has always been its overwhelming detract ion.
I did not realize you lived just across the river ! Best to view it from afar:-)

I didn’t know much about Detroit until I moved here, but have been made much more aware of its struggles over the past few years. It’s a sad, sad story.

GR8 shot Laurel: love it! Now if those were ‘homes’ in the background, that would make even for more parallelism and/or juxtaposition! 😉 <3
