S is for… Soporific
~ by Laurel Regan
raindrops plop, fat and wet
stymied by a skylight barrier
rivulets trickling down the glass
in mesmerizing streams
kittens purr, low and rumbling
curled in a yin and yang embrace
fluffy sides rising, falling
in time with each breath
pillows entice, plump and soft
resting on vanilla-scented sheets
feather-warm comforter beckoning
in alluring invitation
and…
i am gone

Well, that makes perfect sense to me Laurel! Such a combination of sounds with rain and cat purrs in addition to the downy comforter and vanilla smell can all indeed induce a soporific state! 😉 <3

So cosy and lovely sounding. You paint a lovely picture with your words. I love that word soporific. I don’t really know that word well. Thanks for enlightening me.

It’s not a word I use often, but it seemed perfect for this poem. 🙂

Soporific – love this word. Hope I can stay awake a little longer though. So many A-Zers, so little time. Sleep in May!

Your word picture of rain and comfort set the scene with such simplicity. I’m there, stroking the kittens, snuggled up in a comforter, watching the rain trickle down the glass.

Ah, the reason I don’t go off that quickly must be that we never have rain!
