O is for… Ombrology
~ by Laurel Regan
a memory
bus stop
waiting
early-alarm weariness
wee-hour morning sky
still dark
streetlight reflections flickering in
puddles
textured with wind-driven ripples
and
it
is
pouring
rain coat, drenched
waterproof shoes, leaking
raised umbrella, useless
drip
drip
drip
crowded bus, windows steamed
wet bodies packed together
soaked, unsmiling
braced for another long work day
marked by
sopping hair
clammy feet
sodden spirit
finally dry?
must be time to go
back in the rain
back on the bus
back to your home
until tomorrow
then
lather
rinse
repeat…

That was so vivid, felt like I was in there, feeling the raindrops!
Nicely written.

I’ll bet! It was my experience much of the time in Victoria, BC – very similar climate. 🙂

That was a beautifully sensory poem. I could feel, smell, and hear this poem. The drip drip drip sounded in my imagination. I was on the bus with you, glasses fogged up, coat dripping, feet wet, hoping that the papers in my backpack had not become waterlogged. I’ve been there, and I’ve lived it, and this expresses the rainy experience so well.

That was great. I felt so clammy and wet reading it. You made the whole scene come alive so vividly. Kind of a sad tone to it though. Glad I don’t have to get on a bus in the rain much these days. I don’t miss it one bit.

I don’t miss it either. So thankful that rainy commutes are a thing of the past for me!

That’s been life for three days now. Rain down my neckline into the jacket, down the spine, and now I’m chilled. I know those bus rides. Uh.

This can typically describe the Vancouver – and especially North Shore – climate where I live as it rains here a lot! And yes, you can get soaked and chilled to the bone at times…brrrrrr! 😉 <3

I had a feeling you’d understand, Elly! It rains an awful lot in Victoria where I’m from, but not as much as Vancouver!

That was a very unique one and I was like right there watching it. I felt it was dark. You expressed it beautifully.

I’ll bet! It always seems such a shame that it’s so unevenly distributed. We CERTAINLY could have spared some of our rain in Victoria!

An employee’s life in a rainy day. Couldn’t have painted it clearer myself. Haha. I can imagine that feeling. I’ve been there.
Have a wonderful weekend!
