H is for… Home
~ by Laurel Regan
so old
100 years or more
a century of life happened here
under the shelter of a steep-pitched roof
housed within the safety of sturdy grey-block walls
unknowable numbers of inhabitants
adults, children, couples and families
dwelt in these rooms: laughed, cried
cooked and ate, played, entertained
sang, danced, lived, loved, then slept
gone now – yet in a way they remain
as spirits of memory and experience
oh, if only these four walls could talk
i would listen to their stories forever

I loved this one, too. My house isn’t quite 100 years old, and it doesn’t have a steep roof, but I sometimes wonder at what happened here.

Lovely!! It’s hard to find such old buildings here now, everything’s being demolished and rebuilt!

You make me feel that participating in these challenges is way too easy. That’s how you write your blog posts. Once having read it, I feel , oh yes, this is so very easy to be written. But then, that spark never is ignited within me for the said topic, the way it gets ignited within you. Kudos to you.

Love the home poem and so clever making it into the shape of a house. Wouldn’t it be great if the house could talk and tell you stories? It would be fascinating, there is no doubt.

Beautiful! Our first home (probably always my favorite home) was 70+ years old, and only had 2 previous owners. It almost felt as though I knew the first owner and her family, although I never met them, because of all the interesting touches they added to the house.

In the days when we lived in a very old country cottage I often used to wonder about its past life. Not nearly so poetically, though 🙂

How cool that you put your poem in the shape of a house! 🙂 You’ve really captured the feel of “home” with your words, too. It’s a shame that so many old buildings are demolished.
