C is for… Censor
~ by Laurel Regan
i would have written this poem
but then i thought
no, what if it makes people sad
or hurt
or angry
i would have written this poem
but then i thought
no, what if it makes people ridicule
or judge
or scorn
i would have written this poem
but then i thought
no, what if it makes people worried
or uncomfortable
or bothered
i would have written this poem
i would have written this poem
i would have written this poem
and oh, this poem would have been good.

Good one Ajay. Lol. I am not participating in an AtoZ challenge, but it sounds so interesting. I am participating in a 30-day challenge. Hopefully it gets my brain juices flowing enough to produce great quality work.

Makes one think about how many poems, books, and blogs are not written because we censor ourselves for fear of what will say.

Ajay wins the award for most creative comment. I’ve censored myself at times – perhaps too many times, as some family members read my blog and I never want to, even inadvertently, cause hurt. I am also doing the A to Z. I decided not to do other challenges this month (including one I’ve done for nearly four years) to concentrate on A to Z.

Thanks for sharing. Hilarious and very true of how I tend to sometimes judge my work even before I start writing it.

Too many people do this censoring thing. I try not to do it on my own blog. I speak my mind, though I do try to do so in as least offensive a way as possible because I’m not out to attack anyone. Still, if someone does take offense, I don’t take back what I say. They are my thoughts and you can agree with them or not. I won’t attack others for having a difference of opinion and actually welcome readers to share them, whether they are in line with my own or not, but I never attack others and I won’t tolerate attacking. Still, being open with your thoughts is far far better than choosing to censor them, to hold back just because someone somewhere might get offended. This world would be a very boring place if everyone agreed all the time, and an even more hostile one than it already can be if we all attacked each other for disagreeing.
