Today’s happiness is brought to you by a whole ton of treats! No, they’re not for me (my idea of a treat is more along the lines of a bag of chips!) – rather, they will be assembled into tiny decorative bags and distributed this coming Friday (Halloween, for those of you in countries who may not observe the holiday) to the multitudes of costumed kids who will be making the rounds of the houses in our neighbourhood.
Living in a house (as opposed to a townhouse or condo), particularly one in a neighbourhood with a number of young families, means that a lot of trick-or-treaters stop by each year. Last Halloween we had close to 75 kids! We haven’t been here too long, so the whole experience is still enough of a novelty that packaging and distributing treat bags is actually a lot of fun. Fun, and happy-making! I’m looking forward to setting up my little assembly line and getting things ready to go.
Trick or treat! Do you hand out goodies for Halloween?

When I make my first million dollars, I am going to give out those little boxes of animal crackers, to each and ever trick or treater. As it is now, a humble Snickers Bar with have to suffice.

I like making up those goodie bags, too, Laurel. We don’t get a lot of kids on this side of the highway compared to the other side. Don’t know why exactly. We usually get about 30 which isn’t a lot.
I remember when we lived in the Arctic back in 1997, Halloween was totally crazy. Even the moms went out carrying their babies in their amoutiks on their backs. And there was a lot of snow by that time, being so far North so it wasn’t very warm out. The Inuit love Halloween and getting free candy. What’s not to like?

We ended up only having around 30 ourselves – the weather seemed to keep a lot of the kids away. Lots of candy left over – too bad! 😉

It’s pretty hit or miss in our neighborhood, so I think I’ll just leave the lights off this year.

Our little neighbourhood has gone through a demographic shift, from mostly elderly homeowners to young families with small kids. That means that around here, Hallowe’en is a pretty big deal–and a lot of fun for those of us without kids at home!

That does sound like fun! I enjoy passing out the candy, and was a little disappointed that the numbers were down this year (probably because of the weather).

We live down a 280 foot lane in an old farmhouse, built 1790. The wind blowing a bamboo stand feels eerie and haunted, especially on Halloween night. We’ve lived here 24 years and haven’t had one single trick or treater. Ever.

Sweet! We do this for every festival in our apartment building. Love the happiness on the children’s faces. Those treats look yum!
What made me happy today? My routine – packing a lot more into the day between 5 and 8 am than the rest of the day 😀

I do not hand out candy as I am at the back of a house; however, I think it would be fun to see all the various kids’ costumes! 😉 What made me happy today was learning finally how to use my cellphone a little bit better…. 😉 <3

I was thrilled and excited today to meet a girl in Britain who was ousted from her home, sleeps at hostels, has a seizure disorder that is not controlled, and to hit it off with her really well.
My daughter is at that stage where she is rejecting me and not wanting to be called “baby names” and what a joy to meet a lovely girl who I ‘adopted’ because she has had no mother figure for the last decade of her life. I thank God that I found her. I thank God that I changed her. I thank God that I can teach her how to pray. And I can be a mum. For that, I am grateful. I live to serve, and I love all the children in the world. But she came to me in a special way, and now she has my heart.

You are fancy that you make treat bags! I yank open the plastic bag containing mini candy bars and then just grab one or two and dump them in the trick-or-treater’s bag. This year, we’re handing out Hershey Kisses.
