We can all lay claim to some unusual, harmless things about our physical selves – little quirks and oddities that when combined with the rest of who we are make us unique. I certainly have them – and I don’t know about you, but I rather enjoy finding out that some of them actually have names! So as a bit of #MicroblogMondays trivia and silliness, I thought I’d share three of the oddball things that make me ME, and invite you to do the same (if you dare!).
Yes, my second toe is longer than any of the others, including my big toe. No, I am NOT going to post a picture (though there actually are a couple of them lurking in the depths of my Flickr account), because I really, strongly dislike pictures of anyone’s bare feet, even my own! (Note to self: Add “photos of bare feet” to the growing list of things that make me squeamish.)
You can’t tell these days, thanks to the miracles of modern dentistry, but my natural state is to have a fairly large gap between my two front teeth. This one I will share, as the photo proof is really rather adorable if I do say so myself! (Can you tell that my mom was a hairdresser?!)

File this one under “Most Annoying Quirk Ever” – because while there may be variation in the degree of sniffliness that ensues, my nose WILL run no matter what I eat, when I eat, or how much I eat. How bizarre.
So there you go – my own little catalogue of quirks and oddities. Consider yourself enlightened!
Now it’s your turn.
What quirks & oddities make you unique?
Please share!

Ha ha! That’s a fun dare..I enjoyed your post not on your oddities. I am a sensible one 😛
I too have a gap between my teeth. In India, they say that if the secomd toe is bigger, the woman is a dominating one. Only you can comment how true is that? 😉

This is fun! Here goes:
-I have allergies that make my tonsils itch, and I make a noise that sounds like a pig grunting in order to scratch them. This “talent” apparently is genetic (my sister is the only person I’ve met so far who can do it, too).
-I have a tattoo inside my stomach. Actually, it’s just a series of dots in a circle to mark where I had a benign tumor removed (so the GI doc knows where to check during follow-up endoscopies).
Thanks for the “brain break” during a crazy workday!

The dentist fixed the gap between my front teeth (thank you for the name although it went in one eye and out the other.) Fancy having a hairdresser mother who does an adult style on her daughter. Cool!
One oddity about me: My hair used to be the darkest shade of black without the extent of having a blue shine. Now, it’s pewter. (grey with black flecks.)

I think the gap suits some people, but I was never fond of it on me. And I hear grey hair is all the rage these days, so you’re right in style! 🙂

The post was fun! So there is a name for my second toe being so long. Now I know it’s got a name. Morton’s Toe.
I also have femoral acetabulum displasia which means merely that the ball portion of my hip (femoral head) is not properly seated into the acetabulum.
My knees crack and pop all the time too. I’m not injured and I can remember them doing this even when I was very young. I haven’t found a name for it.

I’ve had friends whose joints do that too! Sounds painful, but they always claimed that it wasn’t at all.

Those are fun quirks, Laurel! Funny that they all have specific names like the Morton’s toe. Never heard of that before but I agree about feet. Most peoples’ feet aren’t that attractive. I have a huge big toe that curls upward and a weird baby toe with a strange nail inherited from my mom. I’ve always had big feet (size 10) right from when I was a kid and I’ve always been self conscious of them. Oh well. They’ve served me well for 55 years. Must be kind to them.
We all have quirks galore, for sure. I also get that runny nose condition when I eat, too. Seems to worsen as I age.
I also have a very noisy digestive system right from beginning to the end (pardon the pun!) The other day I burped and my SIL said, “You do that a lot, don’t you?” and I said,”Yep, my system is a noisy one.” When I eat, the crunching is loud even with my mouth closed. Intolerant people like SIL and hubs should eat elsewhere when I’m eating. Heheheh! The worst was at the theatre when some very rude man leaned over and chastised my son and I for eating popcorn like pigs because it was too noisy for his liking. How does one eat popcorn quietly? The funny thing was that later we saw him outside and my son (Who isn’t that assertive by any means) confronted him about it. The guy backed off after that.
Funny how your post is bringing all this out. It did touch a funny bone!

So interesting! Who knew there were such fancy names for things like a bigger second toe, a gap between teeth, and a never-ending runny nose? 🙂 Love it.
I have three baby toes on each foot, and my babiest of the baby toes is lower than the start of my big toe. Which meant that I wore a hole in my KEDS all through school because no toe is supposed to be in that spot. I’ll spare you a picture…
I could just do this with my feet. My right second toe doesn’t bend anymore. Not sure why, but it’s kind of fun because I can give people “the toe.”
I like to wear the same sandals all summer so that I get tan lines on my feet and can prove that yes, I really did get sun…it does get paler than this.

You were a cute one! I guess my oddity would be my sunken hips. My hips sink in before they flare out..something I sometimes wish I could change but at other times I think they are ‘sexy’…Lol! Great post.

How funny! I’m sure I have dozens of quirks but the one I have that drives me crazy is my nostril flare. When I try to do a poker face or just a hold still face, my nostrils flare in and out and I can’t stop it ! People used to call me a bull. I am a Taurus so I guess the astrology sign fits !!

Re: quirk #1: I have the same thing. #2: Adorable! #3: I’ve never heard of that before. What is the best day to deal with a runny nose when you’re eating somewhere nice, anyway? When I’m eating spicy food or just dealing with allergies, I usually just try to subtly wipe my nose with my napkin (disguised as a regular wipe of the mouth/upper lip), but I don’t know if that’s really the best way to handle it.

Let’s see –
I have a lisp which gets accentuated with the word “R”. Now go look at my name again 😀
I always carry my movie tickets tucked under my watch. Don’t ask me why!
If you leave me in a room with a person and a dog, I will always gravitate towards the dog 😀
So many more… probably will need a post of my own 🙂

I was going to remark earlier somewhere (wherever I posted a comment) that you still look the same now as then in terms of the gap between your front teeth, though I think it’s cute. 🙂 I didn’t know it had a name though! 😉 I have a few things at least: (1) my hair was platinum blonde when I was a young girl, then turning golden blonde, and darker as I got older. I am actually now a brunette (coloured my hair red-toned) with white hair growing (mostly) underneath (2) I have a small letter b-shaped vein on the inside of my upper right arm – no kidding! 😉 (3) I have an almost constant (and annoying to me too) sniffle …it feels like my right nostril is plugged up or rather something is blocking it or something! (4) Oh and my R/L/both knees ‘give way’ all of a sudden sometimes when I am walking! 😉 <3

Well, I never knew that Gustatory Rhinorrhea was a thing. I just know that almost every time I eat, I need to have a tissue handy! Now it’s got a name. Thanks for that.
I have a very big gap between my big toe and second toe. When I was at primary school, I remember another little girl looking at my foot, and asking where my other toe was!

Haha…those are some interesting quirks. I have weird toes in that my big toes curve inwards…they are not straight like most people’s toes. I used to have a gap between my middle teeth and I had two others on the top {canines?} that looked like vampire’s teeth…had to have them all rectified through braces.
Twitter: alphabetsalad
July 11, 2015
My teeth were fixed with braces, but the gap between the front two teeth came back after awhile. I ended up having them bonded, as once I’d got used to having no gap I wanted it to stay that way!
