Today the world lost a beautiful spirit, a phenomenal woman I have long admired.
Rest in Peace, Maya Angelou.

We did indeed. I just wrote a piece on her for Lefty Pop and as I researched it, I was amazed at all she had done in her earlier life that I was unaware of. What an amazing life and career she’s had.

I was sorry to hear of her death. The world lost a brilliant light. She had quite an amazing life and tried her hand at many things. ♥

I admired that woman so much…she was an inspiration to women of every age and description. I loved it when she told about taking a bottle of whiskey into a room and sitting alone to write her poetry…I could see her. Being real and famous at the same time must be very hard. She will be greatly missed.

She certainly will. I think I secretly hoped that some day she’d speak at some conference or other I’d attend and I’d be able to see her in person. Makes me so very sad to know now that that will never happen.

I was also sorry to hear of her death. Such an amazing woman. I read “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” when I was in college (the early 1970’s) – it was so powerful, and it was only the beginning.

I have all of her collected autobiographies in one bound volume, and I think it’s time I read them again.

So hate to hear when someone passes. Unfortunately, I don’t recognize the name so I am at a double loss. 🙁

Laurel, I find this poem particularly moving because of the recent Santa Barbara killings. I find my grief over those murders and merged with my sadness over Maya Angelou’s death. I can’t seem to stop the tears.
