I haven’t tackled any of the writing prompts for this month’s NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month) challenge theme of Connect recently – but since today’s is a rather fun one, I thought it would be a good opportunity to jump back in. Let’s party!
Tell us what makes a party or event successful in your opinion.
I think there are all sorts of elements that can go into making a gathering a success, depending on the occasion, such as…
- yummy food and drink
- fun activities
- good music
…and so on and so forth.
But the one consistent factor – and, in my opinion, the biggest and most important one – in what makes a party or event successful is…
Drumroll, please!
…the people who attend.
Seriously! Whether the event is planned or spontaneous, held indoors or out, for having fun or all about business, I want the people who share it with me to be friendly, approachable, and welcoming. The food and drinks might be bad (or nonexistent!), the activities boring, and the music not to my taste – but if I make even one meaningful connection with someone else who was part of the event (and yes, having fun together can be meaningful!), I’d consider the event a success.
What do you think?

What makes a party or event successful?
Please share!

that is so very true! It’s about the people for sure! I also think secondary to that it’s about the wine, and food too. People love to pick on eatables while conversing. I think the wine loosens them up too lol.

It is about both the people and the food, I think. Maybe because I am on the shy side, but I tend to head right to the food. It also helps if the party giver invites a good blend of people – people who will enjoy each other’s company.

I’ve been at a few events where the people weren’t all that exciting (like the TV critic parties I used to go to), so whether the wine and the food were good was important. But the right people definitely make the event. Unless the wine and/or food are really, really good.

People, yes! Definitely. Probably why I find weddings and other family gatherings rather boring.
(If my mom reads this comment someday – sorry Mom. But I thought you already knew! :P)

A party is a gathering of people, not the accompaniments. People who have common interests, and think alike. As the hostess, your job is to bring them together. Yay! Can I come?

Party Hearty! 🙂 A great mix of people is the prime ingredient, for sure, but good food and drink plus music adds to the ambience.

So true! The people invited are the most important factor when you throw a party. Family and Friends are always awesome!
