NaBloPoMo November 2012 Prompt
Tuesday, November 27, 2012:
If you could instantly know any language in the world, which one would it be?
My first instinct is to say either French or Italian, since I’ve already got a head-start on both.
BUT…
Since I do have a head-start on both, and enjoy the actual process of learning them, I suppose I should choose something different.
With that in mind, I think I would probably pick either American Sign Language or Japanese. Both languages are completely foreign to me, both would likely be incredibly difficult to learn on my own, and both would be very useful skills to have – so instantaneous knowledge sounds rather appealing!
Which language would you choose?

ugh. I was terrible at studying languages and truthfully hated it. Except for Latin which I finally only tackled in college.

Latin mystifies me!

You are far more ambitious when it comes to languages than I ever was!

I think my first responses would have been French or Italian, too. But I have studied French, and Italian is similar, so if I were to pick something different, I’d have to say Russian or Chinese. Russian just because I think it’s cool. I took two years worth of Chinese in college, and I loved it – also loved writing the characters – but I didn’t have the time to devote myself to it properly. I wouldn’t mind having a go at it again.

Chinese is another one of those languages that I think would be very difficult to master. The characters are so beautiful, though!

Without Japanese, Tokyo is pretty much IMPOSSIBLE to navigate, so that would be my pick, haha!
