Just look at her…
she should be ashamed of herself!
tsk, tsk
absolutely disgusting, isn’t it?
Just look at her…
rolls of fat around her middle
details (but not bulk) camouflaged by baggy tops
never belted or tucked
Just look at her…
so self-conscious, thinking everyone’s staring at her
whispering about her, judging her
(well, aren’t they?)
Just look at her…
hate the indulgent ugliness
hate the hidden shame made manifest
for everyone to see
Just look at her…
look, despise, berate
then, sickened,
step away from the mirror.

This was awesome! I loved the O. Henry ending, well at least to me it was. I wasn’t expecting it.
Beautiful writing. And, beautiful person too.

YOU STAY OUT OF MY BEDROOM! I know you have been eavesdropping on me and my old mirror.
I really love this. Hoping it was humor. ♥

Wow! Dawn, it is like you just put into words the innermost thoughts of so many women, including me. You expressed it so emotionally that it’s like I was thinking out loud and you overheard me. I could never have expressed it as well. Great post.

This brought tears to my eyes. When a person shares an inner weakness, a sadness like this in such an amazing way I am speechless. Thank you Dawn for this. I wish you never felt this way.

Wow. It’s terrible to think that many people look at themselves this way. Probably, the very same folks who would look at a friend with far more loving and accepting eyes.

I’ve often thought that sometimes we’re harder on ourselves that we are on anyone else!

I think it’s true that we would never say to a friend the things we say to ourselves. WHY can’t we be better friends to ourselves?
