Intentional creativity

I‘ve been toying with the idea of making 2010 a year of “thinking creatively” in a very intentional and measurable way, using monthly personal challenges to keep myself on track and motivated.

I’ve tackled some creative challenges in the past, with varying degrees of success. I completed a couple of months of “100 Words” challenges, and am currently in the midst of my first month of NaBloPoMo. I started a “Picture of the Day” challenge which was supposed to last for the year, but stopped short towards the end of April. (Still, though, almost four full months of taking and posting a photo every day is pretty darn good for a non-photographer!)

My idea at this point is to come up with several challenges that cover a spectrum of areas of creativity – writing, drawing, music, crafts, etc. – and commit to completing a different one every month. The challenges may be something I need to do on a daily basis for the whole month, or the goal may be to complete a specific project (or projects) within the month (I guess it would depend on the nature of the challenge).

The more I think about it, the more I’m excited about trying this. It could be a lot of fun… and who knows what hidden talents I might discover along the way?!
