Herbie Homecoming Day!

(Note: This post was written by Laurel Regan and originally published in a separate blog called “Herbie Tales”, which was later merged with Alphabet Salad.)

Herbie is home… and we are exhausted!

HerbieDay1

(I’ve actually taken a bunch of pictures, but he moves so much they’re almost all blurry! I’ll need to get better at this, that’s for sure.)

The three of us went for a walk, played in the backyard, worked on practicing some basic commands, and tried (emphasis on “tried”) to have a nap while Herbie was in his crate. I fed Herbie for the first time (does he ever love his food!), then Peter made our dinner and started to train Herbie to stay outside our (very tiny) kitchen while the cooking was taking place.

We haven’t introduced Herbie and Spider yet. We’ve set up a “quiet room” for Spider – my office – with her food, water, and litter box, and we both spend time with her when we can. I think we’ll wait until Herbie is a bit more used to us and the house before we do introductions. But I miss my little lady, so much, and I hope we can start living with both animals together soon.

Herbie is a total love sponge! He seems to have taken to us quickly, and is always looking for pats and scritches and belly rubs. He is delightful, energetic, affectionate, and curious, and has the dearest freckles on his nose. He is a VERY active puppy… he didn’t stop until Peter and I sat down to eat dinner (Herbie flopped down on the floor between us), then later while Peter was out running errands Herbie crashed on the floor beside my chair as I worked on writing this post. (I wonder if he’ll ever use his new daytime bed/pillow, or just try to stay as close to us as possible?!)

To finish off our first day with Herbie we took him for another walk, and now we’re watching the Canucks/Senators game (must turn him into a hockey fan right away!). After the game and a final trip out to the back yard, we’ll keep our collective fingers crossed that we’ll all get a decent night’s sleep.

Yay for the first day with Herbie dog!
