Gruntled

I was unaware of this fun fact until today, but I have just discovered, after years of making jokes about it, that apparently the word gruntled actually IS the opposite of disgruntled.
I’m not sure what to do with this information.
The world just got a little weirder.

Good God Dawn! This blows my mind. Many years ago, I told a boyfriend I was disgruntled, and he replied, “you can’t be disgruntled because you’ve never been gruntled.” We both laughed heartily, assuming it was not a word. Even my spell checker is underlining it in red. How did you discover this language altering fact!

I’m glad I’m not the only one who laughed at it! And I have no idea what possessed me to Google the word, but I suspect the reason falls somewhere between bored and uninspired! 😉

Oh my! I’m now going to have to use this word all the time! I love MW’s sample sentence: “we were gruntled with a good meal.” That sounds so utterly hilarious to me for some reason!

I know, it’s great, isn’t it?! I’m trying to find ways to work the word into everyday conversation, even if just to see the looks on people’s faces!
OK, is it people’s or peoples’? I am having a punctuation brain freeze. Argh!
