Is it a terrible thing, a sign of misplaced pride or overblown ego, to feel a thrill when your writing is highlighted, thereby acknowledging it as something that others might like to read?

Because a thrill is what I felt – several thrills, actually! – when I received an e-mail from BlogHer letting me know that one of my blog posts, Finding Community in a New Town, was going to be featured in the “Life” section of the BlogHer site.

I tell myself that I shouldn’t need external validation – that I write because I love to write, because it’s always been a part of who I am, because life is infinitely better when I write – yet still, any time encouragement from a source under absolutely no obligation whatsoever to appreciate my work comes my way… I’m sorry, but it’s a thrill!

So thank you, BlogHer. You made my day!
