NaBloPoMo November 2012 Prompt
Monday, November 19, 2012:
If you had to get locked in some place (book store, amusement park, etc) overnight alone, where would you choose to be locked in?
This whole question bothers me, for several reasons.
First off, I don’t like being locked in anywhere. Sure, I lock the doors of my house like crazy… but I have the control over whether or not I get to unlock them! The idea of being locked in to any place makes me feel claustrophobic and panicky.
Also, overnight? I’m not as young as I used to be, you know! The idea of staying up all night just makes me tired.
Even if I suspend my aversion for the purpose of this post, I can’t think of anywhere I’d actually enjoy being alone for hours on end.
A book store?
While I love books, and book stores, and being surrounded by books, the only way I would want to be locked up in a book store overnight is if I could somehow achieve the magical ability to absorb (and retain) the contents of every book on the shelf within the time allotted. (Wouldn’t that be great?!) The reality, though, is that I might get through one, maybe two, of the precious volumes. And I could do that at home!
An amusement park?
In order for an amusement park to be fun, it requires other people to fuel the experience – to operate the rides, to spin the cotton candy, to run the games. And even if by some magic the rides/candy/games were able to function without human input, I can’t imagine having much fun without someone to share the experience. Really, magically-operated rides/candy/games or not, being alone in an amusement park seems like a rather dull prospect to me.
A spa? A restaurant? A theatre?
See above re. people required to fuel the experience! (Am I being too literal?)
A department store?
Only if I had a friend with me. And either oodles of money or shoplifting amnesty.
I’m running out of options here… so I guess I’d better hope I am never faced with the ordeal of having to answer this question in real life!
