You know, it really doesn’t have to be fancy. It needn’t involve classy restaurants or expensive tickets or getting dressed up to the nines. And it doesn’t necessarily require a lot of pre-planning or sweating the details.
It’s about setting time aside to enjoy each other’s company.
Which means that it could be as low-key and budget-friendly as enjoying an ice cream cone and people watching and taking a walk in the park… as lovely as appreciating the golden hues of the setting sun… as fun and silly as driving around town listening (and singing along to) your favourite songs cranked up to high volume.

Fancy pre-planned date nights are a treat, to be sure.
But I think the low-key times we spend together – talking, connecting, laughing – may very well be my favourite kind of date nights.
What’s your favourite date night or time out with friends?

Love your ice cream date night selfie. How cute is that! I agree that these spontaneous moments together can be just as fun as the more expensive planned dates. I enjoy riding bikes out here in the country or walking the dog with the hubby. I don’t need anything too fancy, complicated or expensive. Simple is best.

Taking walks and looking at other people’s flower gardens. Or, walking on trails in a local park and finding wildflowers. Sometimes, on vacation, watching the sunset. I pinned your sunset photo – it was lovely, with the fisherman.

Laurel, cute selfie and stunning sunset shot! I’m with you: a little time with a friend or loved one is the most delicious activity, refilling the heart and warming the soul. My greatest joy, other than hanging out with my husband, is having coffee or lunch with one friend. We choose an interesting place, we sip, we munch, we share hearts, we trade stories. This is the precious stuff of life. Thanks for a wonderful post.

Is this sappy? Ever since we became empty nesters, I’ve felt like we have date night every night. But, the best was a month long trip to Southeast Asia this past January. My husband of 32 years and I have been accustomed to 10-12 hour work days apart. During January, we spent 24/7 together which confirmed that I married the right person — the second time.

Beautiful post Laurel:-) I also like the not-too-planned-ahead-dates…. They can turn out the best – a walk along the sea, sitting on a bench in the park… Fills me with joy and gratitude of the ones we have and love:-)

Last night post dinner we sat down to watch an old Hindi movie. It was an impromptu decision and we loved it.

My husband and I love watching baseball together — as a result, we have many “date nights” — he even tapes the games if I’m at work and avoids social media (he doesn’t want to know the outcome!) so that we can watch together when I get home 🙂

I love that! We’ve been known to do that on occasion, only in our case it was with hockey games.
