I think one of the things I like – no, love! – the most about blogging is the ability for others to share their own thoughts on what I’ve written by way of the comments feature. Thinking about it, this potential for input from readers is really what keeps me coming back to blogging day after day, writing and sharing my thoughts and life with the world instead of keeping them locked up in a private journal for my eyes only.
So when I signed up for another month of NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month) on BlogHer, I was intrigued to see that the theme for the month of June is Comment.

Wondering how on earth anyone could possibly write a whole month’s worth of blog posts on commenting, I headed over to take a look at the list of prompts for June – and realized right away that apparently I don’t have enough imagination! I was inspired by several of the questions before me – things like, “Who owns the comment section: the blog writer or the blog readers?” and, “Are you good at holding your tongue, or do you need to say what is on your mind?” and, “Do you strongly support freedom of speech? Do you think it should have limits?” Several of the prompts triggered an immediate response that made me want to dive right in and start writing; others caught me a bit off-guard and made me stop and think. In any case, I’m looking forward to seeing what emerges as I and my fellow NaBloPoMo-ers tackle these interesting subjects. I think June is going to be an interesting time of exploration, definition, and discussion, and I’m looking forward to being a part of it!
As always, I probably won’t follow the prompts list entirely – I’ll still be featuring my regular Gratitude Linkup, Tangled Tuesday, Photo Friday, and Photo A Day Challenge posts, as well as any other topic that happens to take my fancy on any given day… but that’s the beauty of NaBloPoMo, isn’t it?! What you choose to post is entirely up to you – the prompts are there as a resource, but all that matters is that you post something every day throughout the month.
Interested? Think you might want to give NaBloPoMo a try this month? Head on over to BlogHer and sign up for daily posting in June… then come back to this post and COMMENT to let me know you did it! 😉
Will you be participating in NaBloPoMo in June?
Please share!

I love blog challenges but the kind with a prompt on a particular topic every day don’t work for me and my relationships niche. I don’t think readers are looking for posts about blog commenting on my blog but it’s fine for a blog about many different topics or a blog about blogging or even business.

Thanks for stopping by, Ana! The nice thing about NaBloPoMo is that really, you can write about anything you want and still participate. It’s a great way to meet new bloggers!

I felt I must comment on a post about commenting 😉 I spent the last year just blog reading and writing comments. The last blog post I made was April 3, 2013. Hmmm. Makes my blog name rather apropos, clogs.blogspot.com! Been clogged for over a year. Maybe I will take up the challenge of just writing something everyday of June to get myself in the blogging mood for attending Blogher’14 but I won’t follow the prompts.

You’ve actually made it sound pretty darn enticing, Laurel! I might have to hop over there and see what it’s all about. As another commenter said, we don’t always find that daily prompts work for us, but I could see working some into our usual schedule. Thanks for the great tip!

Great post. I wouldn’t have thought there’s so much into blogging comments either but as you write your blog, I can see how there is a lot of details around it. I hadn’t heard of your blog challenge above but I’m going to check it out.

Here’s my comment about your commenting post. How could I not comment, right? It sounds like a fun blogging challenge. I signed up for NaBloPoMo once but for some reason, I didn’t go through with it. I can’t remember why. I think I was just in a funk. Anyway, have fun with this this month, Laurel. Take care!

Sounds like a fun month. Comments are great because they let you know what folks think of your stories and art work. You are not only creating . There is a bonus because your work is getting read and seen, and you discover how folks feel about it. ♥

Thank you so much for reminding me! I wanted to do this last month but forgot to sign up before the deadline. Heading over there right now. Reading and responding to comments is one of my favorite parts of blogging – it’s nice to know that somebody is reading what I write :).

I love comments and commenting! I’m completely with you on that being one of the great things about blogging!!
I considered joining this month, but honestly I don’t think I can swing it. I’m too involved in something else and don’t feel that in fully in rhythm again…probably because of this other thing.
Have fun! As always, I look forward to reading your shares through the month 🙂

I posted my first comment EVER on a blog this past January. Before, I was always a behind the scenes reader. Now, I love the interaction and friendship building that occurs with commenting.
There are so many topics surrounding the art of commenting—I am excited to read your upcoming comment posts!

I know what you mean – it’s a lot harder to blog daily in the summer. I’m trying to make it through the whole year, though, so I have no excuses!
