The joys of working from home do NOT include the days when your internet dies and takes your phone down with it, so you have to call the cable company for service but they tell you that they can’t send a tech for two days, so you haul your computer and associated paraphernalia to the library where you discover that the only parking around has to be paid for with coins and you just have cards, so your long-suffering husband drops you off so you can sign up for a library card and access their internet HotSpot while he circles the block, then find that even though the HotSpot connection allows you access to the internet, it doesn’t actually let you connect to your work’s VPN so you can’t do any real work anyway.
Yeah. Days like today.
…webmail and instant messaging are gifts from heaven
…as are my extremely patient and flexible co-workers
…and I now have an extra extra EXTRA long weekend
See you tomorrow from wherever I find myself!

I empathize and sympathize. You just described my daily rituals. 😉

Oh, I’ve been there. I tend to go to airports or hotels (La Quinta always has free wi-fi) and then I can get on work’s VPN. Better to just take a day off. 😉

Oh what a crazy day. I remember sitting in my car in parking lots to access internet. What a crazy great modern world we live in. Hope your internet is up and running again soon.

It seems to be up at the moment (fingers crossed), but as this has been happening intermittently for the past several weeks I have no idea how long it will last! Hopefully they find the problem when they come tomorrow.

Me too! This problem has been going on for awhile – yesterday was the worst, though. Hope they can find – and, more importantly, FIX – the problem this time!

Yes, it’s really great to have all this technology at our fingertips. But, it’s really frustrating to have a breakdown like you’re having.
It looks like you are handling it well. I do hope you get it resolved soon, but have a lovely Easter weekend!!!

I had a similar day a few weeks ago and it involved the internet, MagicJack and my cellphone. While not funny at the time, I’ve had a few laughs since then. Hope your extra long weekend made up for it all!

It’s been a wonderful extra long weekend! Unfortunately the internet problems don’t seem to have been fully solved (grrr) so the tech is coming back on Wednesday, but thankfully I’ve found a spot that allows me to connect to my office server, so worst case I have another place to go!
