I’m tangling from A to Z – S is for…
…Scrolled Feather
…Snaylz Trayl
…Sonnenband
(Pssst… new here? Welcome to Alphabet Salad! For some background on how and why I got involved in the Blogging from A to Z Challenge, check out this post… and, if you’d like to catch up on my progress to date, all of my challenge posts are tagged with Tangling from A to Z. Glad you stopped by, and hope you’ll return!)
Tangle Practice
Today’s tangles were great fun! Though the finished tile makes me laugh a little. While I think it looks quite pretty overall, I realized halfway through one of the tangles that I was making a rather significant mistake with the pattern (points for you non-tanglers if you can spot it!). Since the tangle pattern still looked nice in spite of the “mistake” I decided to carry on and finish it my way, and consider it artistic license. 😉

Tangle Practice – Sonnenband
Border & String
Just to carry on with the whole A to Z theme, I thought I’d make each day’s “string” resemble the appropriate letter for the day. I can’t always promise that the finished tiles will look anything like the letters – it all depends on which tangles I’m using and how the drawing evolves. We’ll just have to see what happens!

The stripes and solids in the Sonnenbands are reversed in the finished tile? Is that it? No matter–it looks beautiful anyway. I really, really love the scrolled feather–that might be my favorite pattern yet! You continue to surprise and delight me every day with these!

That’s exactly it, Elaine – good eye! Apparently “Sonnenband” means “Sun Band” or something along those lines (I think in German?) – and while my practice tangle does have the look of little suns, the pattern in my finished tile looks more like fans! But I thought it worked anyway. And I love the scrolled feather too – when I chose that one back in March I couldn’t wait until the “S” day arrived so I could try it!
