I’m tangling from A to Z – I is for…
…Inapod
…Itsy Twisty
…IX
(Pssst… new here? Welcome to Alphabet Salad! For some background on how and why I got involved in the Blogging from A to Z Challenge, check out this post… and, if you’d like to catch up on my progress to date, all of my challenge posts are tagged with Tangling from A to Z. Glad you stopped by, and hope you’ll return!)
Tangle Practice
Whenever I sit down to learn a new, complicated-looking tangle, my initial response is almost always a rather daunted, “I can’t do THAT!” But the Zentangle® tagline – Anything is possible… one stroke at a time – really is true. Each tangle is broken down and presented step by step, helping you build an intricate design from the ground up. So even if you don’t believe you’re an artistic person (which several of you have said in your comments!), I encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and give tangling a try. I believe you just might surprise yourself. 🙂

Border & String
Just to carry on with the whole A to Z theme, I thought I’d make each day’s “string” resemble the appropriate letter for the day. I can’t always promise that the finished tiles will look anything like the letters – it all depends on which tangles I’m using and how the drawing evolves. We’ll just have to see what happens!

You have an amazing imagination to be able to come up with such different designs.

Thank you! But I’m just putting others’ designs together, so I don’t feel as though I can take all the credit! 🙂

I love the simplicity of these black and white designs that are also intricate at the same time. Not sure how they manage to capture those two ideas beautifully but they do.

Oooh, now I came across zentangles somewhere else and sent to info to my son, who was doing much the same thing as doodles when he was bored, and has been doing since he was a child! Can’t quite ‘get’ why they are ‘copyrighted’ – how can you copyright them as a whole? Bit like copyrighting ‘sketches with a pencil’!
Will send him a link to your blog.

Thanks for stopping by, Liz! The way I understand it is that it’s not the designs themselves that are copyrighted, but the Zentangle method. There’s some more information here, if you’re interested:

Another lovely one, Laurel. I’ve been meaning to ask you if you need special pens for these?

Thanks, Corinne! I use Pigma Micron pens in a variety of sizes (but mostly 01), and then just a regular pencil for borders and shading.

Another beautiful one! You are so good at putting these together into an intricate, lovely whole design. I’m one of those who has not an iota of artistic talent, but I’m getting very tempted to try these, and I’m glad to read your encouragement!
