How blogging changed my life

Inspired by NaBloPoMo writing prompt for Monday, March 10, 2014*:

How has blogging changed your life? Tell us one thing that is different now than from before you started blogging.

(* Since Monday’s post is earmarked for Meatless Monday, I thought I’d borrow the March 10th prompt for today!)

How blogging changed my life

I’ve been writing – in some form or another, with varying degrees of consistency – for most of my life. So that’s nothing new.

I’ve even shared my writing – with friends face-to-face, in small specialized publications – on several occasions. Been there, done that.

But blogging changed my life in a way that just writing on its own could never have done.

Blogging broadened my horizons and introduced me to the world.

Blogging has…

…granted me membership to an amazing community of writers that spans the globe.

…made it possible for my writing to be read by anyone, anywhere.

…brought people from countries I only dream of visiting to my little online home.

…connected me with friends – individuals who, in some cases, became fast friends – who would otherwise have remained strangers.

Blogging has given me the world.

How has blogging changed your life?
Please share!

    2) Opened my wold via meeting the women of Listen to Your Mother when I was cast in the NYC show in 2012 and first learned about blogging.
    3) Gotten me writing more regularly
    4) Helped me build my platform
    5) Gotten me into the Huffington Post
    6) Garnered awards

Love this! Well done, Lauren. I agree with all you’ve mentioned; the global community of writers and leaders is very inspiring! For me, it’s also a great way to preserve family stories and events for my grandchildren.

It really sounds like it’s been additive for you–that’s great! It’s a nice list of impacts, important. I had to really think about your question–it’s such a good one. To be honest, blogging hasn’t changed my life a bit. I’ve always written every day and now I post it. I don’t care about earning a living with blogging, so nothing there to celebrate. I’m thrilled to have met new women but I can’t say that’s changed my life, I’m still the friendly girl I always was. I’m not interested in writing for free, so my exposure online hasn’t given me much more than my pre-blogging exposure, as most of the time I sell the essays I submit and it’s based on my non-online publications. At some point my blog will be a platform but my books are a ways off still. When I gave it some thought I had to affirm that I have a fabulous life off-line and that so much has happened to change it in THAT arena that online pales in comparison. And I’m happy with that. Thanks for giving me such great food for thought!

Blogging hasn’t changed my life, but it has given me an outlet for sharing what’s on my heart, as well as my love for books.

Blogging has been Refreshment to me. I have been a writer since childhood and sometimes I heard how it affected people and more often “not a word.” But with blogging, I receive immediate feedback and I love it. I love interacting with the readers…making new friends…being able to write every day and immediately publish it…is is water on dry land. It refreshes my need for creativity and to help others…and if I occasionally make a dollar, that helps as well!!

Blogging has allowed me to share (what has turned out to be) a unique perspective with the world. Who knew that everyone hadn’t grown up on a ranch?!
And blogging has enabled me to record and keep family stories. Who knows? Maybe one day, my kids will read them!!

I can’t agree more, blogging is absolutely wonderful and it shows us the world and makes us crave to visit the online home. Strangers become friends and it all becomes so inspiring.
