Inspired by NaBloPoMo writing prompt for Thursday, March 6, 2014:
Does blogging bring out your best or worst self?
Hmmm, let’s see. When I blog, I…
…am led to examine things on a deeper, more reflective level.
…take the time to translate my ideas, observations, feelings, perspective, and experiences into writing instead of just thinking or talking about them.
…am profoundly conscious of the importance and weight of words and the responsibility I accept by writing them.
…practice discipline and intention.
…develop, challenge, and nurture my creativity.
…choose to make connections with a wide range of individuals from all corners of the world.
…make myself open and available to hearing and discussing different or unfamiliar points of view.
…focus on accentuating the positive.
…keep my mind active and engaged.
Well, what do you think? I’m going to go out on a limb and say that blogging definitely brings out my best self!
How about you? Does blogging bring out your best or worst self?
Please share!

It depends on the post and the blog, for me. I have three blogs, one of which is mostly for ranty essays, and probably annoy more people than it pleases. My main blog is my writing blog, and I’m very careful what I put on it. The third one is all about stream of consciousness and trying to entertain, even while I’m ranting.
So . . . yes? And no? Both? 🙂

It’s always nice to have a variety of options!

That is a interesting question I may go look at that writing prompt myself. It really does depend on what the topic I am writing about. It can bring out my pain, my joy, my appreciation and aggravations; however, over all it makes me feel like a better person.

It was an interesting thing to think about, for sure! I like your perspective on it.

I sure hope it does! That’s sort of the main reason I blog, so that I can express who I really am. Good questions to ponder as I work on my next posts.

Well that depends, I think the best but life is not always happy and joyful so I surely could be grumpy and a bitch sometimes .

True enough!

I think that is a great question, one I ask myself often in other aspects of my life. Life just sucks sometimes, there is no way around it, but you have the option to be positive or negative about it. It is your choice, and nobody else’s fault for the way you act. Take responsibility for your actions, don’t blame them on your childhood, or wrongs that may have occurred towards you. Choose to be better and make the world a better place. It takes more energy to be angry than it does to let it go, and ultimately, letting go is quite freeing. I guess I always try to put my best self forward, and do positive things, because I choose to, and I when I blog I like to believe that I am helping someone out there. I feel I have a positive voice.

Well said, and very true! I really do try to keep my blog as a positive place, and hopefully most of the time I succeed.

Everything you said and much more! Blogging saved my life in many ways! After being a frustrated non-writer until age 50, it set me FREE!

Love the question and your response, Laurel. I used to be very random in what I wrote on my blog. Now I’m more conscious about what I share – staying authentic to my beliefs, but not holding back too much either.

Thank you! So glad blogging has done that for you! 🙂

It definitely does for me. I don’t write personal blogs. I write recommendations, how-to’s, tips, etc. So since my posts are basically to help readers and give them useful information, I try hard to make them as useful as they can be. In that way, I really do feel that they bring out the best in me.
