Autumn dreaming

Autumn – cosy sweaters, red and orange leaves crunching underfoot, cupped hands around steaming mugs of hot chocolate or apple cider – is by far my most beloved time of the year. Yes, yes, I know it’s still August! Nevertheless, each year around this time the plethora of “Back to School” flyers, an occasional whisper of a chill in the air, and flipping through the pages full of possibility in the new fall community activity guides each cause a small thrill of excitement to bubble up despite the actual date on the calendar… because fall is coming!

As is my tendency each summer as August draws to a close, I’ve been thinking about some of the things I hope to accomplish, learn, and spend my time doing throughout the upcoming year (because my “New Year” starts in September rather than January, don’t you know?!).

Several of the activities I’ve been involved with this past spring and summer – blogging, walking with friends, two book clubs, girls’ dinner evenings, and so on – I am hoping will carry on throughout the fall and winter. And I suspect that I’ll return to a couple of hobbies I’ve been itching to do again – crocheting and needle felting – but couldn’t bring myself to pick up when the weather was hot. I also long to carry on learning Italian, but struggle with doing so on my own – perhaps I need to sign up for classes to keep me motivated and accountable?

So many possibilities!

What are you dreaming about for this autumn?
