Archive 2005: I’m baaaaack!

(Note: This post was written by Laurel Regan and originally published in a separate blog called “Fibre Yarns”, which was later merged with Alphabet Salad.)

No, I haven’t completely abandoned my crochet journal… just took a little break is all! *grin*

Remember Loopy Bath Mat #1? Well, that project has since been nicknamed the “Bathmat of Doom”, as it turned out to become one of those “stumbling block” projects for me. It was just taking forever, and becoming so monotonous, and I wasn’t enjoying it anymore… yet for some reason I felt guilty about abandoning it and starting something new. However, instead of finishing the BoD, or even working on it, I stopped crocheting altogether! Silly, really. I’ve now decided that it’s perfectly ok to put the BoD aside until some unspecified time in the future, and start something new now.

So, I’m getting back to basics and making another scarf. I bought two balls of Bernat Berella “4” in “Terra Cotta Mist ($4.98 plus tax at Lewiscraft), and though the picture on the Bernat site is really rather ugly, it’s actually a lovely-coloured yarn in shades of brown, rust, and dark green. I’m following the Keyhole Scarf pattern, which after three tries at our Fibre Arts meet last night, I have finally managed to figure out. (Apparently I’ve forgotten how to read. *grin*) Though the yarn is acrylic (not my favourite for scarves), I think it’s going to be quite pretty when it’s all done.

Even though I’m working on a rather basic project, it feels so good to get back into crocheting! So I am taking the story of the BoD as a lesson: though it’s good to be stubborn and have stick-to-it-iveness about most things, it’s also ok to put a project aside if it’s in danger of stopping me from keeping up with a hobby I enjoy.
