Happy (almost) New Year, Alphabet Salad readers! Since we’re very quickly approaching the end of 2016 (and considering all the rotten stuff that took place in our world this past year, I say moving on to a fresh new one can’t happen soon enough), it’s time for me to share my 2017 word of the year – and then invite you to do the same.
In previous years I’ve given quite a bit of time and thought to my choice of word before deciding on one, but this year it came to me almost immediately. Since I’m going to be working on a new art journal project over the months to come, I broke it in by making the first page a dedication to my word of the year, which is…
Why explore?
- I plan to explore new artistic techniques as I work through my year-long art journal project.
- A big focus of the first few months of the year will be to explore all of the options and possibilities for a thrilling three-week vacation that’s in the works.
- In May, I’ll be heading off to explore Italy with my mom and sister (yes, we’re really going!).
- In the year to come I will explore the features of my new point-and-shoot camera – a step up from my iPhone and towards (some day) getting a proper DSLR – and through putting them to use, explore new photography techniques.
- Now that I’ve got my feet wet as a CZT, I will explore new opportunities for teaching Zentangle to the people in my community.
So there you have it! Of course I’ll be writing more on each of these topics throughout the year to come, and I invite you to check back regularly for updates.
Now it’s your turn!

So rich with possibilities and I love the idea that you have so much planned around it .. I would keep dropping by for inspiration .. Wish you a an exciting year ahead .

My word came almost right away, too. It wasn’t hard, given the current climate in the United States, and how it may affect the coming year. Now all I have to do is write the post. Thank you for hosting this linkup once again. Wishing you a wonderful year full of exploring.

When I heard about word of the year..immediately the word that came to my mind was Gratitude. I am thankful for all the ups and downs in life. I like the word ‘explore’ too. We explore and only then we grow. 🙂

As the sister in law of a man who is developmentally disabled, I find myself determined to make a better life for him – my husband works hard at this and I would love to blog more about that. So, I have created a second blog and am determined to use it as a tool to make his life better. Making that my word for 2017 is a natural.

I love having a word for the year, although I’ve not been too successful this year with mine. Like yours, it was “progress” too, mainly because I was supposed to leave the mental institution after more than eight years in it this year. Well, that didn’t happen. I haven’t yet picked a word for 2017. As a side note, you probably chose the old linky style, which is somehow still inaccessible with my screen reader. Is there any other way I can send in my word of the year post when I write it?

I am not loving the fact when we hoard the things just to possess them but not for the need. My word for all the years to come will be -MINIMALISM because it will take time and efforts to apply this on each level. Your idea of art journal is a good one and therapeutic too.
