As I browsed the internet during the last week or so of 2013, I noticed that variations of the same question kept popping up in several different places, prompting a wide variety of thought-provoking responses from a range of individuals.
“What is your word for 2014?”
I’ve seen this question asked in previous years, but never felt moved to join in… but for whatever reason, this year the idea took hold in my brain and I decided to claim a word for myself for 2014. Throughout the long trip home from Victoria I started exploring several possibilities, and after a couple of days of mulling it over I chose the one that persisted in pushing its way to the forefront of my thoughts.

I like it. I like it a lot. To me, “becoming” suggests ongoing growth, deliberate metamorphosis, a transformative journey. To me, “becoming” is positivity, excitement, anticipation. To me, “becoming” oozes scope and possibility and bundles my wishes for the next year (and beyond) into a hopeful package.
Becoming… fit and healthy.
Becoming… a better wife, daughter, sister, friend.
Becoming… more creative.
Becoming… intentionally organized.
Becoming… content with what I have.
So it’s decided: this word is MY word for 2014.
Do you have a word for 2014?

My word would have to be “explore” I think. I look forward to exploring my creativity. Exploring art and writing in new forms. I love your word. Happy New Year!!!! Happy Birthday too! ♥

Thank you for your post. My word is “restoration”. 2013 was a year that tore down and tore apart — 2014 will be a year of restoration in many areas.

“Becoming” is a great word for the year. It has so much potential behind it.
If I were to pick a word for the year it would be “Expanding,” because I’m “Expanding” my horizons, “Expanding” my writing, “Expanding” my circle of friends, and more.
I’ll have to give this some thought and see if I want to blog about a single word this week. (Or at any other point during the year…)
Thanks for the great post!

I think my word would have to be “breathe.” I feel like it’s something I didn’t do enough of in 2013. Or maybe “exist.” I don’t know, something that will remind me to live without crazy expectations for what my life should look like.

I have 3 words AND a song! I have done this for the past 4 years thanks to Chris Brogan’s suggestion. The song was my own idea. 🙂 My three words are Consistency, Compassion and Simplify. My song is one by The Alternative Routes called Nothing More. I love your word choice!! It is perfect in so many ways.
