Today has not been a happy day for Canadians. For those of you who may have missed it, there was an attack this morning at Parliament Hill in Ottawa that left two dead and several others injured, and at the time of writing the situation is ongoing and considered “fluid” according to police.
Happiness is still there… but today, it’s masked by profound sadness, and posting something light and frivolous in the face of loss just doesn’t seem appropriate. So today I quietly share my lit candle and hope that you will join me in prayers for peace and safety.

This is one sad story for Canadians and the world at large. There is evil out there but I still think there is more good.

Too sad… this really hit home for me because my husband is a Canadian and we spent 12 years living in Alberta…

Our great country is changing as the world is changing. The unimaginable events of the past couple of days has brought this sad fact front and center. Today we must put our faith and that of our country in the hands of our police, our military and our parliament. And today we must, as you say, take a moment and pause to reflect on those who are so very personally affected and hurting.
The actions of few should not reflect on our country as a whole. We are a country of good, good people. We will get past this.

You’re right. Some days, happiness just doesn’t seem appropriate. Yesterday was scary and painful, but today we woke up and our country (and city!) were pretty much the same as they were before. This is the time when we get to decide on our response. I choose strength and compassion over fear and paranoia. I bet you do too. 🙂
